The Real Skanky Housewives of Atlanta...

    Saturday, November 22, 2008, 08:16 AM [General]

The Real Housewives of Atlanta has to be the biggest piece of trash I've ever laid eyes on... and of course, I love it.  I prefer the O.C. version of the show (which comes back next week!), but these trolls have kept my attention for the last couple months.  The hottest mess on the show has to be Kim, with her enormous Medusa extensions and phony country singing "career".  I also love that she looks about 150 and claims to be 29.  On the Bonnie Hunt Show the other day, Bonnie did a DEAD ON impression of Kim in a skit she did with Niecy Nash who plays NeNe.  You can check it out here:

If you heard Bonnie on our show last week, you know the interview was a bit strange, but I had to give her some credit for the skit... BRILLIANT!

The death of Rashid Rauf is a welcome success for the war on terror

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 02:13 PM GMT [General]

So finally, justice has caught up with Rashid Rauf, the British terrorist mastermind held responsible for plotting to blow up several transatlantic airliners in mid-flight in 2006.

Had his diabolical scheme succeeded, the death toll would have been unimaginable. Remember, 270 people were killed in the Lockerbie bombing of New York-bound Pan Am flight 103 in December 1988, and the death toll would have been many multiples of that if Rauf's scheme succeeded.

There is an irony, therefore, that Rauf, who has been on the run since escaping from a Pakistani jail last year, was killed by a different kind of aircraft bomb at his hideout in the lawless province of Waziristan in Pakistan, which is where most of al-Qaeda's leadership is hiding out.

He was killed by a missile fired by a U.S. pilotless drone aircraft. The moral of Rauf's demise: he who lives by the airplane bomb, dies by the airplane bomb.

    In Memory of Grace

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:12 AM EST [General]

Grace Hartigan, an Abstract Expressionist painter once hailed as the leading female artist of her generation who later turned to teaching and led a Baltimore art school to national prominence, died Nov. 15 of liver failure at a nursing home in Timonium, Md. She was 86.

Hartigan was a brash, self-taught artist who began painting in the late 1940s when the Abstract Expressionist movement, led by Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, was reaching its height. From her first solo exhibition in 1951, she was considered an important artist, and her work sold briskly throughout the decade.

The Museum of Modern Art bought one of her paintings in 1953, and she was regularly featured in major exhibitions. In 1957, Life magazine called her "the most celebrated of the young American women painters."

Her paintings were alive with movement, rhythm and vivid splashes of color. A 1960 Time magazine article said "her strokes seem committed out of rage; the effect is one of extraordinary power."

By then, she had left New York for Baltimore and had begun a long descent into critical neglect. She had also begun to include recognizable figures in her paintings, which was seen as a betrayal of Abstract Expressionist principles.

Inspired by what she called the "vulgar and vital in modern American life," Hartigan introduced elements from pop culture and classic art into her paintings. Somewhat to her chagrin, she became known as a founder of pop art, a 1960s movement led by Andy Warhol that emphasized detachment and irony.

"Pop Art is not painting because painting must have content and emotion," Hartigan once said.

Still, she enjoyed the recognition: "I'd much rather be a pioneer of a movement that I hate than the second generation of a movement that I love."

Grace Hartigan was born March 28, 1922, in Newark, N.J., and grew up in rural Millburn, N.J. She taught herself to draw as a child but had little formal training in art. She married at 19 and worked as a draftsman for a factory during World War II. When she saw the work of Henri Matisse in a book, she decided to become an artist.

She settled in New York in 1945 and became part of the inner circle of three of the era's major artists -- Pollock, De Kooning and Mark Rothko.

Hartigan was a regular at the Cedar Tavern in Greenwich Village and had a two-year affair with painter Franz Kline. She became a close friend of poet Frank O'Hara, who wrote several poems about her, including the words used as his epitaph: "Grace / to be born and live as variously as possible."

For several years, she signed her early paintings "George Hartigan," as a tribute to 19th century female novelists George Eliot and George Sand, and her reputation exceeded those of such renowned female painters as Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner. She was championed by the kingmaking critic Clement Greenberg.

As Hartigan became more immersed in art history in the 1950s, she began to draw on images from traditional painting and ordinary street scenes.

One of her best-known works, "Summer Street" (1956) at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., includes a clearly recognizable fruit stand amid a dynamic swirl of patterns and colors.

In the tempestuous art world of the time, the use of figurative objects was deemed a form of apostasy. Greenberg, who considered representational art little more than kitsch, insulted Hartigan to her face and never wrote about her work again.

When she moved to Baltimore in 1960 with her fourth husband, Winston Price, a medical researcher at Johns Hopkins University, her standing in the art world "sank from view faster than the Titanic," the New York Times once reported.

She began teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1964 and became director of the graduate school of painting a year later. She held the position until her death, building the program into one of the most prestigious in the country.

In 1969, Hartigan's husband injected himself with an experimental vaccine and developed spinal meningitis. As his physical and mental health deteriorated before his death in 1981, Hartigan's heavy drinking grew worse, and she attempted suicide.

She took her last drink in 1983 and renewed her dedication to art and teaching.

Painting nearly every day at her studio in a converted department store in Baltimore, Hartigan explored printmaking, watercolor painting and new techniques, including Pointillist works. She painted portraits and other works inspired by Hollywood stars, classical mythology, Asian motifs and 18th century design.

She had regular exhibitions at galleries and museums, and an artist seemingly lost to time belatedly reclaimed a measure of glory.

"Somehow," she said, "in painting I try to make some logic out of the world that has been given to me in chaos."

Her first three marriages, to Robert Jachens, artist Harry Jackson and gallery owner Robert Keene, ended in either divorce or annulment. A son from her first marriage, Jeffrey Jachens, died in 2006.

Survivors include a sister, a brother and three grandchildren.

Legions of students and other followers were captivated by Hartigan's formidable presence and by her bold pronouncements, which were often about her place in the art world.

"I didn't choose painting," she said in 1993. "It chose me. I didn't have any talent. I just had genius."

    More Pre-Thanksgiving Mage Rage!

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:12 AM EST [General]

I thank Milady Majesties, Catherine and Elizabeth, for their kind appreciation of this foolish old Wizard. Nonetheless, 'twas that ancient Kringle sage Lord Rambo who grunted of old:

"To survive a war, ya gotta become war."

And thus, Master Richard is out to make the following clear: You don't talk mean about the ol' "Elf Without Jingles" and expect that he shall be pleased about it! And so, on the weekend ere Thanksgiving, on the eve of the famous Mother Goose Parade of El Cajon, California, the Great Kringle War doth begin --- and my prayer is that me Mortal-born alter ego shall come out on top, as would be his only wish!

    MUSULMANES SUFIS EN CHECHENIA

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:02 AM EST [General]

    MUSULMANES SUFIS EN CHECHENIA

    NOVIEMBRE

    DIA 22

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 09:40 PM AWST [General]

Hi there folks! Here I am again broadcasting to you my unbiased predictions for the upcoming WWE Pay Per View. Next stop for WWE is Survivor Series. So here goes....

    World Heavyweight Championship Match:

55% to John Cena and 45% to Chris Jericho. Of all the returning matches, this is one of the hardest to predict because eventhough this is the returning match for John Cena, Chris Jericho just recently regain the World Title from Batista. My basis for giving this to The Chain Gang Leader is the super-hyped and whole-month promotions for The Doctor of Thuganomics return.

WWE Championship Match: Triple Threat Match:

48% to Triple H, 47% to Jeff Hardy and 5% to Vladimir Kozlov. Last time, at Cyber Sunday 2008, I predicted that Jeff would be chosen by the WWE Universe and ultimately win the WWE Title but I was wrong. So this makes me believe that The Legend Thriller is not yet going to be a WWE Champion any sooner. Maybe, Jeff would always be one step closer until Wrestlemania 25 comes. But Jeff's new attitude maybe the cue for him to be on the top of the food chain. That is the reason for the closeness of HHH and Jeff's chances. As for The Moscow Mauler, he will receive his first ever loss but I don't think that he is going to be pinned. If any from Jeff or Kozlov would win this match, their possible next opponent could be The Game or the one that's not going to be pinned. If The King of Kings wins, his next opponent is could either be the one who is not going to be pinned in this Triple Threat Match or the winner between The Big Show and The Undertaker.

    Casket Match:

60% to The Undertaker and 40% to Big Show. I think The Deadman would defeat Big Show but it's not going to be The Tombstone. I think The Phenom would finish The Largest Athlete in the World with his submission move. Whoever wins this one could possibly be lining up for a WWE Title.

Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team HBK vs. Team JBL

60% to Team JBL and 40% to Team HBK. My cue for this one is the issue of MVP. Remember, this match is MVP's last chance to retain his multi-million contract or else he would pay back. But this does not mean that he's gonna be the reason why Team JBL would win. Here is, I think, the order of elimination:

          Team HBK                                    Team JBL

    1.)The Great Khali                              1.)MVP

2.)One member of Cryme Tyme          2.)Kane

3.)Another member of Cryme Tyme    3.)JBL

4.)Rey Mysterio                                 4.)Either John Morrisson or The Miz

5.)Shawn Michaels                            5.)Will get the win for his team

Remember on last Smackdown, The Dirt Sheet Hosts took the Ring Bell. I also think that it would come into play this Sunday.

Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team Batista vs. Team Orton

60% to Team Orton and 40% to Team Batista. I am not sure how the elimination order will go but I think, eventually, it would come down to Batista and Matt for Team Batista then Orton and Mark Henry for Team Orton then The World's Strongest Man would be eliminated next followed by Matt Hardy and then finally The Legend Killer would RKO The Animal to get the win for his team.

Divas Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team Smackdown vs. Team Raw

60% to Team Raw and 40% to Team Smackdown. I am also not sure how the elimination order will go but I think, eventually, it would come down to Michelle McCool and Maria for Team Smackdown and Beth Phoenix alone for Team Raw then Maria would be eliminated next and finally The Glamazon would pin The Divas Champion to give Team Raw the win.

There you go folks, my unbiased for the WWE's next Pay Per View, Survivor Series 2008. But as they say, anything can happen in the WWE so this means that I could be wrong or I could be right. If you have any comments regarding this blog post, you are welcome to send it to me. Until next time, Ciao!

    Turkey Day Fun Facts-

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 05:38 AM PST [General]

A long-time centerpiece of American holiday feasts, the turkey has a colorful and delicious history. Here are some intriguing facts about our nation's favorite bird, that you may not know:

    - Turkeys originated in North and Central America, and evidence indicates that they have been around for over 10 million years.

    - Until 1863, Thanksgiving Day had not been celebrated annually since the first feast in 1621. This changed in 1863 when Sarah Josepha Hale encouraged Abraham Lincoln to set aside the last Thursday in November "as a day for national thanksgiving and prayer."

    - In Mexico, the turkey was considered a sacrificial bird.

    - Domesticated turkeys (farm raised) cannot fly. Wild turkeys can fly for short distances at up to 55 miles per hour. Wild turkeys are also fast on the ground, running at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.

    - Only male turkeys (toms) gobble. Females (hens) make a clicking noise. The gobble is a seasonal call during the spring and fall. Hens are attracted for mating when a tom gobbles. Wild toms love to gobble when they hear loud sounds or settle in for the night.

    - The heaviest turkey ever raised weighed in at 86 pounds -- about the size of a large German Shepherd -- and was grown in England, according to Dr. Sarah Birkhold, poultry specialist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service.

    - Mature turkeys have 3,500 or so feathers. The Apache Indians considered the turkey timid and wouldn't eat it or use its feathers on their arrows.

    - More than 45 million turkeys are cooked and 525 million pounds of turkey are eaten during Thanksgiving.

    - Ninety percent of American homes eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Fifty percent eat turkey on Christmas.

    - North Carolina produces 61 million turkeys annually, more than any other state. Minnesota and Arkansas are number two and three.

    - Benjamin Franklin, the great American statesman, thought the turkey was so American it should have been chosen as our national symbol rather than the eagle.

    - The fleshy growth from the base of the beak, which is very long on male turkeys and hangs down over the beak, is called the snood.
